Simon Marnie currently hosts ABC Radio Sydney Weekends and has been a broadcaster with the ABC for over 30 years. During that time, he has covered many bushfires, floods and other emergencies and the recovery afterwards. In 2019 and 2020, Simon was part of the extensive team that covered the Black Summer fires. In February 2020, ABC Radio Sydney and ABC NSW undertook their Road to Recovery broadcasts that saw Weekends broadcast from key fire affected locations in NSW including Kangaroo Valley, Bargo, Mogo, Bermagui, Bega, Port Macquarie, Nymboida and Tenterfield. Simon also has broader experience covering emergencies, being first on the scene to cover the devastation of the 2011 Brisbane floods, the 2012 Riverina floods, all NSW fires from 2000 onwards. He was also recently part of the ABC team that visited NSW communities recovering from the March 2021 floods.
